When the Sun Doesn’t Shine In Philadelphia
Since the end of the 5th season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia nothing has been able to satisfy my desire for backstabbing, incredibly foolish plans, and incompetent people. I miss laughing at the hilarious tactics of Charlie, Mac, Dennis, Dee, and Frank as they embark on mindless adventures and try to improve upon their dismal monetary status. From performing a godly awful and hilarious musical, pooping in beds, and countless other controversial actions the Always Sunny crew really doesn’t grasp the concept of being politically correct. It’s the comedy found in their ignorance that makes the sun shine, but in the absence of new episodes the sun hasn’t graced one day with its presence. The days just seem dim and empty.
Somehow my attention is drawn to the TV every time I hear the words Paddy’s Irish Pub because I know the gang is up to something extremely crude and outlandish. The Always Sunny gang highlights the funny side of the American dream, the side where we all laugh at the people who believe their absurd ideas are truly revolutionary, and so we watch with enthusiasm as they miserably fail. I mean nothing really happens on the show other than the gang’s constant failure and one absurd controversial action followed by another, yet somehow the show cuts straight to the funny bone. It’s the sense of gratification viewers get from watch Always Sunny that makes the show successful; we watch the show and laugh at the casts’ idiotic presence while knowing we are better and more civilized than these people. God it makes me feel good, every time I watch an episode I instantly feel better about myself.
Without new episodes of Always Sunny I worry that the characters are dead. With their past there’s no denying that they would willingly put their lives on the line for a little money. I like to think their alright and that the sun still shines in Philadelphia without Danny DeVito on the TV, but all I have to prove this is rumors that the 6th season (coming out September 16) will show an ill-planned attempt to sneak in the World Series, a wrestling extravaganza for returning troops that will surely end in a disaster, and Dennis’s finally reveals his secret method of seduction for his nonexistent love life. The backstabbing, deception, and ignorance that used to make me smile has been taken away by FX, somebody please make the network air the new episodes sooner so I can feel better about myself.
