Despite observations that we are currently experiencing the ‘death of TV’, television shows no sign of giving up the ghost to newer media. The ubiquitous presence of TV—in our living rooms, bedrooms, and even kitchens—demands critical attention. This class will use a variety of approaches to assess the material, rhetorical, and cultural impact of a medium that many people seem eager to dismiss. But is it? Why do people continue to tune in? How has television adapted to the new media environment? What does the future of TV look like? This blog will consider all these questions and more.

True Blood Recap: "Beautifully Broken"

So, the first episode of season three pretty much kicked off with a roaring start! Tonight during the second episode viewers were introduced to a slew of other characters aswell as even more story lines. We meet Lafayette's mother who is in a mental hospital and her hot nurse Jesus (yah thats his name), Franklin Mott a sexy new vampire who rolls into Merlottes (and also was snooping in Bill's house...and was Thomas Cromwell in Tudors....), The Vampire King of Mississippi (Denis O Hare) and his boyfriend, Sam's real parents and brother, and the crazed werewolf Coot(er?) who kidnapped Bill. All these new characters should provide for interesting and twisted stories.

Episode 2 "Beautifully Broken," picks up with Bill killing all the werewolves and finding out he was kidnapped by the vampire King of Mississippi (Dennis O'Hare), who shows up to call the werewolves off Bill. Confused, Bill jumps on the back of the white horse (homo eroticism anyone??) and gallops off to the Kings beautiful mansion. In the meantime Sookie breaks down to Eric about how much she loves Bill and starts to cry, to which Eric asks her to please stop because it makes him feel human. Eric claims he knows nothing about "Operation Werewolf," and sends Sookie on her way, but not without a flashback to 1945 in Germany. All of a sudden Eric and Godric are in Nazi uniforms killing a she-werewolf with the same symbol on her neck...so I guess he lied to Sookie.

Some stranger goes into Bill's house and rifles through his stuff and finds a file that someone( presumably Bill) has been keeping on Sookie since she was a child (one of the articles said she was a spelling bee champion, I wonder if her telepathy helped her there...). A new vampire comes into Merlotte's and warms up to a depressed Tara, his name; Franklin Mott, and he is oddly wearing the same boots as the intruder who was snooping in Bill's house... coincidence? NO.

Bill has an elegant full course blood meal with the King of Mississippi and his boyfriend that includes "blood from a person who only ate tangerines for a week..." The King reveals some crypticinformation about Sookie, offers to make Bill the new Sheriff of Area 2, and shares his desire to marry Queen Sophie Anne, either way the whole thing was weird and ends with Bill's maker Lorena walking in, and Bill throwing a latern at her which engulfs her in flames.

The episode ends with Eric confessing he lied to Sookie and telling her to invite him into her house so he can protect her. He explains he lied about"Operation Werewolf," and tells her what he knows. Eric asks her again to invite him in so he can protect her or to have wild "primal sex with her..." or both... Needless to say she does, and lurking in the dark is werewolf and instantly the fangs come out and the episode is over.

Obviously there is a whole lot of story being developed here, but I am ready for some drama to start happening and less plot set-up. Oh and in case you wondering, Tara doesn't die, and Sam just meetshis parents.. Apparently in Episode 3, next Sunday, one of the most insane sex scenes in the history of television is going down. My predictions? Bill and the Vampire King of Mississippi's boyfriend... Stephen Moyer stated this sex scene is a "water-cooler moment..." whatever that means. It looks like Tara probably will end up getting in another fucked up situation with the weird vampire Franklin Mott. Eric is going to have a showdown with a werewolf that perhaps will lead to him and Sookie passionately having sex... (sigh)... one can wish... Oh! And we get to meet Sookie's hot new bodyguard....Until next Sunday!

Oh and here is a little treat... I guess a creepy photographer snapped this off the set of True Blood earlier this week... I think this is for the last couple episodes... Lets hope Eric is burned because he tried to sacrifice himself for Sookie..
