They just know how to keep the laughs coming on Last Comic Standing. Right off the bat the first comic of the semi finals, Myq, keeps the crowd laughing through out the entire act. I mean here's a comic who definitely knows how to keep the flow going from one hit and outbreak of laughter to the next. Taking humor from reading and movies to the how the devil and homosexuals are related really shows the true colors of the comic world. It's a true comedian who can take the simple and mundane along with the racier situations and really turn it out with the crowd and the judges. I'd guess you probably figured that I'm pretty about Myq. His jokes were just so on spot the entire time and that's what I really enjoy when I'm watching stand up comedy.
The set up of the semi finals is definitely more entertaining then the first three episodes where they search for the semi finalists. The show keeps getting better as the comics get fewer and the show gets more complex. Don't know if anyone remembers previous seasons of Last Comic Standing, but apparently as I'm vaguely remembering the show goes from the broad general search, which I find to be the less appealing episodes, to downright brutal all out comic challenges and battles. If anyone remembers, after the two part semi finals there stand ten comics left to compete for Last Comic Standing. When it's down to these ten comics they move into a house and are put up to challenges and comic battles that finally put forth to America and the many viewers of Last Comic Standing the, well last comic standing. As far as I'm concerned the closer to the end of the show we get the better the episodes get and I'm pretty freaking excited for the next semi finals to air. Yes there may be crazy moments in reality television with people living in houses together like Real World, Surreal Life and Jersey Shore, but nothing beats ten comics living together and competing to be the funniest person in America.
This show definitely knows how to keep viewers entertained without dramatic plot lines, plotted comic relief or even staged reality. Last Comic Standing is bringing back originality to television like no other modern reality competition on television. Unlike shows like America's Got Talent when we see back stories and behind the scenes of the contestants there aren't any sob stories or empowering emotional explorations. I'm don't think that these people are any less genuine then the one's being showed on other reality competition shows but I do think that it's way easier to connect with the people on Last Comic Standing. It's most likely the fact that these people step back laugh at themselves and the world around them and then get on stage and do it in front of hundreds of people. In a sense comics have nothing to lose because nobodies crying at the end. I have such a hard time watching all of America's Got Talent because of the emotional aspect of the show. ABC is really aiming for the emotional aspect of reality apparently. Personally I have to watch clips on Hulu of who was the worst and best of America's Got Talent. It's really just difficult to get through the entire show with all the sob stories and the judges. Last Comic Standing definitely has the best judges of all the reality shows. How often do you find three judges who really don't have much harsh to say when it comes to critiquing? Honestly even if they're being harsh in their critiques it's difficult to cut through the comic relief and butter thick sarcasm. Makes me love the judges Last Comic Standing more and more as this season progresses. I can actually watch the entire show thanks to the judges, the hysterical jokes and of course Craig Robinson.
Best parts of the semi finals:
That white cat that sits in Craig's lap as he introduces the beginning of the semi finals. Like Craig says... What's with the cat? That cat is so calm I thought that it was fake for like 3 seconds. It was just really weird... but weirdly funny.
Natasha's one puffy sleeved dress. The entire show I was wondering if her dress was supposed to be a joke... And the fact that her hair was pinned up on the opposing side of the puffy sleeve. Makes me wonder if her whole appearance was supposed to be comical. I'm not saying the lady doesn't look fantastic, but seriously what is up with that dress?
The guy who uses his memory loss as a joke referring to his wife as "what ever your name is", uses his foot as a ventriloquist dummy while his sock is on his hand and later when he wins calls his wife by the wrong name. Is this guy insane? Or is he the last comic standing. The man is hysterical! His facial expressions never even change the dude is just total dead pan and completely amazing... Like the judges said "an absolute original". I never even noticed the guy crack a smile, it's like he's overwhelmed and totally stunned to even be on the show the entire time. Whether it be an act or really his personality, it's unbelievable stuff.
Did I mention Craig Robinson!
